"How to Marry a Millionaire"

With the soon to be released, (November 23rd), “My Week with Marilyn” starring Michelle Williams as the iconic Marilyn Monroe, I felt it necessary to take a look back at a true Marilyn Monroe film. How to Marry a Millionaire is one of my favorite Monroe movies, second only to the classic Some Like it Hot. The basic premise of the film begins with three models in New York, Loco (Betty Grable), Pola (Marilyn Monroe), and Schatze (Lauren Bacall), determined to find spouses with large bank accounts. They want to live the high life so they formulate a plan to ensnare millionaires of their own. The girls move into a Penthouse they can’t afford, sell furniture to pay the rent, and go out on the town nightly to find their men. Yet in the process of finding these eligible bachelors, they realize they can’t judge a book by its cover. Anyone can look the part of a millionaire, but actually being one is a different story. This leads Loco, Pola, and Schatze on an adventure to find out if money or love is what they really want in life. Personally, Marilyn plays my favorite character as the self conscious woman. She never wears her glasses, which she desperately needs to see, around men because she believes they won’t find her attractive with them on. Of course, due to this fact, amusing situations ensue. It’s hard to believe someone as gorgeous as Marilyn could think of herself as ugly just because of glasses, but it’s a movie after all. The film was released back in 1953, so don’t expect amazing cinematography or special effects, but it is in color! The story is funny, meaningful, and it’s Marilyn Monroe, what’s not to love? “How to Marry a Millionaire” is on Instant Netflix, and I suggest giving it a chance.
