The following are upcoming events related to Black History Month:

February 9th: ‘Hidden Colors’ is a film about the underrepresented histories of people of color worldwide. The Black Student Union will be hosting the screening. Come watch in CAB 301 at 7pm. For more information about the film see: http://hiddencolorsfilm.com/the-film.php

Hailing from Berkley, California, Lia Mezzio has joined the Evergreen community as the new Campus Organizer to help continue WashPIRG's important work. With the snow of a few weeks ago welcoming her, Mezzio has been very busy putting together a team for WashPIRG's current campaigns. As there has been a high demand for student volunteers and interns, along with a lot of snow, it has been no simple task.

Campus Dining Services has implemented several changes over winter break.

This past week, Olympia has been hammered by just about as much snow as it’s ever seen. There’s a good foot of snow on the ground, ice and slush make walking significantly more difficult than it should be, and there are more snowmen around campus than there are people. Because this amount of snow is an oddity in the Pacific Northwest (and I'm from Michigan...

Students celebrated the Martin Luther King holiday on Monday, January 16 in the snow on Red Square. The snowball fights seemed to be mostly friendly fire.

Riot To Follow! is once again in search of brave souls just foolish enough to go where-- well, where actually quite a few men and women have gone before.

Some students who attended The Evergreen State College last year might remember an event that was sponsored by the Women's Resource Center called Porn Week. Porn Week was a week long event that included things such as workshops and question-and-answer sessions that aimed to promote sex positivity. Unfortunately, Porn Week will not be held this school year.

The Evergreen campus Facilities Services is working toward campus energy conservation, as well as campus waste reduction.  Irene Hinkle is our Resource Conservation Coordinator, a job funded by a grant from Puget Sound Energy.  This power company supports its commercial customers to conserve energy in order to eliminate the need for increased infrastructure such as dams and power plants.  However infrastructure does not have to be a bad thing, if it is conducted in an intelligently designed way.  Infra

To celebrate the beginning of Winter Quarter and the start of a new calendar year, CPJ staff members are publishing their goals for the next few months. Read on to see what you can expect this quarter, and send us your feedback!

Katy Wilson-Albert, Web Designer: "My goal for the quarter is to make the website more aesthetically pleasing, easier to use, and more enjoyable for the students of Evergreen."

We asked students at the winter academic fair what they are looking foreward to for the winter quarter.

The Evergreen Street Surfers is a group for anyone with four wheels and a piece of wood. The concept is simple, get people together to go ride. And through this process, bring people of all skill levels together to share knowledge, advice, gear, and resources. The club is new, and still unofficial, but will soon be applying to become a registered student organization. The group meets on red square Wednesdays at 1. If you have an interest in longboards or skateboards and are in the market for people to ride with, come check it out.

I sat down with Ian Campbell of the Center for Community Based Learning and Action (CCBLA) to talk about a little-known resource on campus. The CCBLA has been working to connect students with volunteer opportunities since 2004.

So what exactly is the CCBLA and what do you guys do here?

The CPJ wants to know!
Do you believe the campus was once meant to be a prison? Do you believe Will Ferrell lives in the woods? Do you believe there are laxatives in the Greenery food?
Have you heard of the mystical place called Happyland on campus?

A kite was flying during a Laughter Yoga session at Red Square, cool stuff!

Laughter Yoga is coming to Evergreen!
Laughter has shown again and again in studies to be extremely good for people. It has been proven to express and relieve stress as well as provide a myriad of physiological and emotional benefits. What Laughter Yoga does is channel this into a structured environment with others where bonding and hilarity will ensue. More and more, Laughter Yoga has become a new device used in offices, retirement homes and birthday parties for stress management and fun.
