Next year, Evergreen’s contract with Aramark expires. Aramark provides food services for various locations on campus. This means that Residential and Dining Services has to put together a request for proposal (RFP) for a new contract. According to Jay Field, the Purchasing and Contracts Manager, an RFP outlines “what it is that we need and want, and what we expect any successful vendor to do.” An RFP gives various vendors a chance to bid for a contract with Evergreen.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of The Evergreen State College's first year of classes, and the date isn't going without recognition. You may have noticed the '40' banners up on Red Square for the entirety of this past year and some events on campus, like the recent Willi Unsoeld Seminar and Rachel Carson Forum, that celebrate alumni and the college's past. All these events have been leading up to the three-day Return to Evergreen celebration on May 18-20.

Week of May 5 thru 12th

Officers and Parking enforcement responded to and handled 9 building unlocks, 3 escorts, 3 jumpstarts and 1 medical call for a dog owner bitten by their own dog. Parking enforcement placed 6 boots for vehicles with excessive tickets. Officers conducted 2 traffic stops, both resulting in verbal warnings. Officers assisted the Childcare center after an employee called and advised they possibly left the dishwasher on and were afraid of flooding.

It's normal for a senior at Evergreen to worry about justifying four years of study that may or may not make any sense. Seniors may have every intention of completing the optional “summative self evaluation”… but then senioritis will take over and they’ll never think of it again. In a few years, though, you won’t be able to ignore it—the summative self evaluation will be mandatory.

As a cap to their Occupy Solidarity Social Forum, Occupy Olympia held a march and protest from Sylvester Park to the Capitol building on Monday, 20 February. The Forum was an unprecedented meeting of Occupy members from all over the country. It was made up of various sessions and workshops designed to spread and share the collective knowledge gained in some of the many Occupy encampments.
