Oh, My!

It is decided.  This is officially the decade of "O."  O as in the Occupy Movement; as in Obama is president; as in the Occupation of Iraq.

"What a strange announcement!" you say.

Well, think about it: Occupy Wall Street has sparked a movement (some would say one that is counter to the Teabaggers) that has placed footholds nationally and internationally.  Many of us on campus probably have friends or acquaintances in a tent somewhere right now.   Is the movement going to change the world?  Probably. In ways we can't imagine, though, I'll bet.  Maybe we'll be able to push for reform in how protests are handled.  Maybe we'll learn to become a discerning and more politically knowledgable voting public, removing our overwhelming apathy and igniting interest in our government and how we want it to run.

Also in political focus, this is the decade where Obama is president, and the election is sweeping into view again.  Insanity in the many political campaigns ensues! Whatever your political views may be, he has made an impact in internatinonal affairs, be they war or diplomacy.  On that note, we see a dedicated end to the Occupation in Iraq.  Take that as you will; I will be watching for updates.  Hopefully we'll be more reserved about sending our troops-- our people-- into conflict.  I hope we can reallocate money from the most well-funded military force in the world back into ourselves, pumping the economy back into shape.

It's a time of Opportunity.  Let's make it happen.
