Same team, same result: Geoducks lose to UPS

The men’s Basketball team sought payback over the University of Puget Sound Loggers, who had beaten them earlier in the season.

At the start, it was difficult to believe that the Loggers had beaten the Geoducks by 12, with both teams responding well to each other’s pressure and trading basket for basket.

With the score even at 20, the Loggers took a timeout and from the restart separated themselves from the Geoducks.

As the Geoducks missed shots, the Loggers passed around the Geoduck defense effortlessly to find the opening and started to score at will.

In the final 8 minutes of the first half, the Loggers went on a 21-4 point run that ended the first half of play with score at Loggers 41, Evergreen 24. Down by 17, Evergreen looked to get back into the game.

As the time on the clock ticked away, so too did the Loggers lead with Evergreen making shots and forcing the Logger’s into turnovers, with the chants of “Defense! Defense!” from the home crowd reenergizing the Geoducks.

The comeback was short lived, though, as the Loggers responded well to each Geoduck attempt to decrease their lead, which took the wind out of their sails.

As Evergreen's missed shots stared to add up, the Loggers took their time with the ball to kill off the clock. Key basket down the stretch by the Loggers ensured their second victory over Evergreen.

The game finished with score UPS 69, Evergreen 59.

Evergreen was led by both Patrick Lewis and Tyrell Stephens, who scored 16 points each.

Next, Evergreen travels to Salem, Oregon, to take on Corban in their first Cascade Conference match up.
